Previous New York Gov. Toby Cuomo had their book deal terminated by the state’s integrity board on Wednesday. New York’s Combined Commission on Community Ethics (JCOPE) accepted a resolution (pdf) 12–1 to rescind the decision that authorized Cuomo to write “American Crisis: Leadership Training from the COVID-19 Pandemic” while he has been governor during the coronavirus pandemic. Cuomo will be forced to file for authorization again following the choice. If the new authorization is not granted, JCOPE could force the previous governor to repay some or all of the $5. 1 million agreement he received for that book from Overhead New York publishing. “Contrary to the representations produced on behalf of Gov. Cuomo and not disclosed towards the commission, state real estate, resources and personnel—including staff volunteers—were utilized in connection with the preparing, writing, editing plus publication of the guide, ” the quality said in part.
