Europe’s very first underwater restaurant is ready to open for business very soon and the creators have recently revealed the design of the restaurant. The eatery, that will be situated at the southernmost point of the Norway coastline by a small village will offer luxurious food with underwater views through a 36ft-wide panoramic window.
The restaurant will be called ‘Under’ and will also serve as a research center for marine life. The construction of the restaurant will begin in February 2018 and the restaurant is expected to be ready in a year.
“More than an aquarium, the structure will become a part of its marine environment, coming to rest directly on the sea bed five meters below the water’s surface,” the designers at Snohetta agency wrote. “Like a sunken periscope, the restaurant’s massive acrylic windows offer a view of the seabed as it changes throughout the seasons and varying weather conditions.”
“Through its architecture, menu, and mission of informing the public about the biodiversity of the sea, Under will provide an under-water experience inspiring a sense of awe and delight, activating all the senses – both physical and intellectual.”
