For years, Lyn Slater,63, worked as a professor at the Fordham University but her life turned upside down after she was mistaken for a fashion model. Lyn has always been into fashion and loves dressing up in edgy outfits. One day she was supposed to meet a friend for lunch outside the Lincoln Center during New York Fashion Week. The place was packed with photographers and journalists and suddenly, all cameras turned to Lyn and they started photographing her assuming she’s a fashion icon. That was the moment when Lyn’s life changed forever.
Soon, Lyn started getting offers from renowned fashion companies and her blog Accidental Icon blew up with millions of views.
Lyn is not a teacher anymore and is following her life-long dream of being a fashion model.
Her age makes her even more special and makes her stand out in the fashion industry where things like body type, age etc., matter too much.
Lyn is also an advocate for ageism as she believes that people should be able to wear whatever they feel comfortable in despite their age.
“I think, if you are comfortable in what you’re wearing, no matter how old you are and you’re owning it, you’re going to look completely fine,” she told Refinery29.
